Gas Safety Check For Home

CHECK YOUR DEVICES
Don't leave it to chance - protect your home and have your gas appliances checked
Any gas appliance in your home poses a potential risk of producing carbon monoxide (CO), a very toxic gas that occurs when natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) does not burn properly. This is the result of an improperly installed, repaired or maintained gas appliance, or when the vents, flues or chimneys are blocked. Other risks include gas leaks, fires and explosions, and that is why it is so important to have all of your gas appliances checked once a year by a certified Gas Safe engineer.
We also recommend that you have your gas lines inspected at the same time as your annual gas safety check. As the owner, it is also legal to maintain the piping.

What is a gas safety check?
A gas safety check should only be performed by a certified Gas Safe engineer, who will test your gas appliances to make sure they can continue to operate in your home safely.
1: A gas appliance safety check guarantees a device:
2: Is correctly adjusted and adjusted so that the gas burns correctly
3: Suitable for the room in which it is located
4: Is physically stable, securely installed and properly connected to the gas piping
Your engineer will also ensure:
There is an adequate and permanent air supply suitable for the device installed
All safety devices are functioning properly
All flues, chimneys and vents are working properly
This can be extended to a complete safety check of the gas installation, in which the engineer:
Check that the installation is in good condition by visually inspecting the piping as much as possible
Test the gas piping to make sure there are no leaks
CO can enter buildings through shared vents, so if you live on a property with a flue or a shared chimney, be sure to share responsibility with other residents to have them checked annually.
Know the warning signs
Pay attention to these signs. If you spot it, you will want to have your gas appliance repaired immediately:
1: Your device is not working properly
2: Soft yellow flame rather than blue
3: Black / brown marks on or around the device
4: The pilot continues to go out
5: Increased condensation inside windows
This does not mean that you should wait for these signs to appear before booking an appliance service; consult your gas appliance manufacturer's instructions for how often a service is recommended. If you do not have access to it, we recommend annual service - unless otherwise instructed by your authorized Gas Safe engineer. Although an annual gas safety check ensures that your gas appliances are working as they should, appliance service, at a minimum, is what you will need from a Gas Safe licensed engineer if you notice the one of the warning signs indicating a dangerous device.

What does an appliance service involve?
A home appliance service includes all of the usual steps from a routine gas safety checklist, but your engineer will undertake a more specific inspection of the gas appliance with additional testing as detailed in the manufacturer's instructions. These can include:
Analysis of combustion exhaust gases to ensure that the appliance burns gas safely
A check of the condition of the device, including signs of heat or distress, the effectiveness of the seals and seals and the cleanliness of the heat ex changers.
It should be noted that your authorized Gas Safe engineer may need to perform additional or different checks, as requirements vary depending on the type and model of the appliance. For example, a boiler gas safety control or service may be different from a gas stove safety control or service.
Depending on the work they have done, you may receive a gas safety record. It is not a legal requirement, so it is a good idea to check with the engineering firm before they come to visit you. Visit our London Property Inspection page for more information.
