Who Needs A PAT Test?
All types of large and small scale businesses dealing with the public must have their electrical equipment tested. Also included are schools, libraries, clinics, restaurants, bars, hospitals, public service organizations and individual traders such as owners, mobile hairdressers, photographers, etc. All types of industries like schools, colleges, hair salons, office buildings, homeowners, workshops, restaurants and many other similar industries need to do these tests.
Which Device Should Be Tested?
The electrical devices that need to be checked are
1: Equipment generally stationary but can be moved easily.
2: Portable devices such as truck mixers.
3: Portable devices such as power tools, hair dryers, etc. It is a high risk category.
4: Extension wires
5: Cables should be checked for any open point.
6: RCD: compatible portable safety switches must be used.
Which Device Does Not Need To Be Tested?
Not all devices need to be tested by PAT, here is the list of devices that you can easily exclude from tests.
1: Microphones
2: Electric guitars
3: Low-voltage keyboards (except those whose power supplies connect to the mains at one end)
4: Micro-voltage audio wires (XLR cables, guitar wires)
5: Battery powered equipment
6: Low voltage equipment
7: Passive speakers
